Who’s ready to reclaim their space and make the most of it? I know I am! Garcelle Beauvais, actress, talk show host and mother, here, and I had the recent honor of partnering with HomeGoods to create an inspiring, joyful place for a deserving group of teachers in my hometown of Miami. We reimagined a teachers’ lounge as a place for them to renew their passion and joy for teaching throughout the year. You can watch how everything came to life here

As a mom who experienced remote learning with my sons, I have a deeper appreciation for teachers and this was my way of saying thank you. While transforming the teachers’ lounge, I learned a lot of styling tips and tricks, and now I’d love to share them with you so you can make the most of your space. Whether you’re a teacher who wants to decorate a space previously designed for virtual learning, or just someone who’s ready to add some unique finds to their home, you’ve come to the right place!

Use Vertical Space to Draw Your Eyes Up, Up, Up: One of my favorite things about shopping at HomeGoods is all of the unique, unexpected finds you come across at great prices! We used hanging shelves, a vertical bookcase, and eye-popping art to lift the mood and draw your attention upward. Adding writing utensils, notebooks, and other fun finds make it a one-of-a-kind space that is both stylish and functional.

Infuse Color to Create Dimension and Energy: We all know HomeGoods offers a wide variety of colorful takes on even the most basic kitchen essentials such as bowls, cups and kettles. Let the essentials serve as added décor by displaying your finds on open shelving.  Plus, add soothing energy with plants and florals – faux ones, that is. I added a little personal touch with yellow orchids on the dining table – I have them in my own home!

Add Light for Ambiance and Mood: Look for unique lamps to brighten dark spaces or nooks (HomeGoods has a bunch!), like the peaceful feeling that this glow light adds to our zen space. When possible, let natural light shine and enhance the small space by adding wow-worthy curtains to large window areas – the curtains transform the otherwise blank space into a cohesive room with an overall aesthetic.

Mix and Match Styles with a New Twist: I love to get inspired and try out new trends (and who doesn’t with HomeGoods’ amazing prices?!). I like to integrate tried and true items like this classic, yet statement-making, golden yellow velvet accent chair in tandem with trendy materials like this rattan coffee table.

Let the Space Inspire You: Coming to the US as a child, school was where I was told I could be anything I wanted to be. I know teachers are inspiring their students daily, and we infused an opportunity for teachers to feel that inspiration themselves into the design of the lounge so it can serve as an inviting, recharging space – just as you would want your home to be. We incorporated bright pops of color through unique artwork, placed a handful of essential oil diffusers, and added plush, comfortable seating options. We added meaningful touches by filling a special, glass sphere jar from HomeGoods with inspirational quotes for the teachers to read when they need an extra boost of positivity. My hope is that the teachers will continue to fill the jar with inspiration for each other throughout the year.
