My Fall Baking Essentials
September 17, 2019
Fall baking season is upon us. I don’t know about you, but as soon as the temperatures start going down, there is nothing I want to do more than to spend all weekend in my kitchen baking my favorite fall recipes.
Whether they’re made with pumpkin, apple, or maple, it brings me such joy to create tasty fall treats that I can share with friends and family. I know they will enjoy eating them as much as I did baking them.
Today I thought I’d share a peek into my kitchen and talk about some of my fall baking essentials. (If you’re new here, you might not know that I just recently revealed my five-month kitchen makeover on my blog. You can check out the full reveal here. I couldn’t be more pleased with my new space. I’m excited to share it with all of you.)
With all that out of the way, let’s talk fall baking as I share some of my recent baking successes along with must-have fall baking supplies!
Anytime I share a recipe here on the Design Happy blog, I like to remind folks that HomeGoods is one of my go-to sources for baking and cooking supplies. On the off chance you haven’t yet walked through their kitchen section, it’s a treasure trove of goodies.
The first things I look for are functional items like cutting boards, knives, measuring spoons, parchment paper, and small appliances. Recently, I was thrilled to find a toaster that matches my new range! It was such a special #gofinding find!
I’ve also been looking for these plastic resealable containers with pop-up lids. I use them to store things like brown sugar, pasta, and snacks. They are great for keeping things fresh.
Cooking and Baking Staples:
Speaking of fresh, I also love picking up any fall baking ingredients I can find at HomeGoods. Not long ago, when I was stocking up on seasonal spices, I found my favorite vanilla extract. (I bought five bottles! Between now and the end of the holiday season, I will use them all.) Other staples I look for are olive oil, vinegar, and coffee.
Here I’m making butternut squash scones and butternut squash pie. (Stay tuned to my blog for the recipes, I’ll be sharing those soon.) I decided to take a break from pumpkin and try something new. I love butternut squash so I roasted several in my oven and made this beautiful puree to use pie and scones. The results were delicious!
While shopping for my baking supplies, I also picked up several serving pieces. Over the years I’ve used serving dishes in many different colors, shapes, and sizes. Nowadays, although the shapes and sizes will vary, I tend to stick with white serving dishes. I find that food looks best on a plain backdrop.
Other things I will look for at HomeGoods are cake stands, appetizer plates, and serving utensils. Since I share a lot of recipes on my blog, I like to vary the pieces I’m using. HomeGoods never disappoints with its selection.
And since it’s fall, I went on a #GoFinding mission for some seasonal items as well. One of my recent fall finds was these beautiful white pumpkin canisters with gold stems. I knew they would look beautiful in my new kitchen.
I also picked up new tea towels. Tea towels are an easy and typically inexpensive way to add seasonal color and flair to your kitchen for any season. This orange-yellow color matched my butternut squash goodies so perfectly.
A few other goodies I found were this plaid tablecloth (It’s among my favorite HomeGoods finds!) and these “Happy Fall Y’all” mugs. They are so cute!
And with that, I would say I’m ready to do some serious fall baking. What do you think?
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing and reading about my fall baking must-haves and adventures. Join me on my blog for these delicious recipes and other seasonal inspiration.
