Setting a Spooktacular Halloween Mood

Furniture and Home Accents Kitchen and Dining Seasonal Decor

Right after August 31, my holiday switch turns quickly into a Halloween mode. In this very moment, I start planning my indoor and outdoor decorations. Sometimes I’ll see what I have store from previous years, but most of the time I like to bring a little something special. And for me there’s no better place than HomeGoods to get those “scary-cool” new accessories that will complement this year’s vision.

A wicked not-so-scary table

Halloween table settings are my favorite. Here I’m able to create a mood for my  guests to enjoy. This year I wanted to add a bit of elegance over our dining table. To do so, I chose a simple palette of black and white with some antique brass finishes. The base of this setting was made by combining two different types of tablecloths. The bottom one was a gray fabric with some metallic threads while the other created a mysterious and interesting layer of knitted spiderwebs.

Another element I used over this table was glass. I found at HomeGoods two oversize glass pumpkins that served as centerpieces.

Around these pumpkins I added some skull carved taper candles to add a haunted feeling. Serving plates with enchanted words were also a great find at HomeGoods. But one of my favorite pieces were the metal spider napkins holders!!! I can’t get enough of those!

For that midnight toast, I found the ideal wine glasses. The skeleton hands on these or the tiny skeletons holding the glasses will keep the guest cheering and screeching all night long!

A haunted fireplace

Our old fireplace is now more of a display area. We’ve never used it but since it’s an original to this 1938 house, I love to add some decorative elements depending on the season. For Halloween I usually dress this area with pumpkins, but on my last trip to HomeGoods I found some galvanized houses which I couldn’t pass on. I bought three of these in different sizes and used the larger ones inside the fireplace. Once I lit these with battery operated candles, the shadows reflected inside were spook-tacular. Because these candles seemed to flicker, the shadows of windows and bats seemed to come to life!

Bone-chilling pillows

Pillows, they add an instant new look to any room. But for my Halloween inspired living room, I chose burlap ones with some eerie images. “Haunting” and “Happy Haunting” along with a skull with a flower crown were some of my favorite finds at HomeGoods. I love how they keep my decor style neutral while adding a mystical atmosphere.

A pair of witch’s boots placed in the corner also conveys that supernatural Halloween setting in our living room.

Knock-knock, skulls there?

A dry husk wreath is so fall! I love how it brings a layer of texture into to our wood door while keeping it simple. But instead of getting rid of this wreath for Halloween I opted to dress it accordingly. With some fake plastic mouse skeletons, tiny serpents and a crew, I was able to “spookify” my door’s decor.

Halloween is definitively one of my favorite times of year because I can be as creative as I want. I love creating small scary-cool vignettes around my house that will start a conversation. At HomeGoods I was able to find the needed pieces to make this Halloween’s decor a memorable one. What area in your house do you love to add a little bit of mystery?
