Summer Stripes Guest Bedroom Makeover
August 15, 2019
Looking for Summer bedding ideas? I have you covered! A couple weeks ago we moved my son’s bedroom to another room in the house and I decided to create a Summer Stripes Guest Bedroom featuring Hampton style decor from HomeGoods.
Here is the room before.
Everything in the room is from HomeGoods except the headboard.
I wanted a light Summer look with a mix of textures and varying shades of blue.
You never know what treasures you may find when shopping at HomeGoods so I usually let the merchandise dictate the theme. I found the gorgeous rope bench on my first shopping visit which set the coastal theme for the space.
Must haves for a Summer Coastal Bedroom.
- Stripes are a great way to add a coastal or nautical theme to a space.
- White painted walls
- white or gray washed distressed furniture
- sisal or tweed rug
- rope styled decor
- faux or real plants
- A mix of white, blue and off white throw pillows with a variety of texture
The overall color scheme of white, blue and beige created a coastal space that isn’t overly “beachy” but casual and sophisticated.
If I am being honest, I am thinking I may confiscate this room for myself!
Don’t laugh but I am picturing a coastal Christmas tree in front of the french doors during the Holidays.
I am a big fan of mixing wood tones when it comes to furniture which lends to a more casual look. I decided to add a tiered shelf on one side of the bed instead of a matching nightstand which allowed space for decorative items.
The shelf height also helped balance the large artwork piece on the opposite side of the bed.
The honeycomb style lightweight blanket is perfect for the dog days of Summer and the addition of a lightweight down filled duvet suffices for cooler evenings.
Don’t be afraid to also layer an area rug on top of wall to wall carpet. It’s totally doable and you will be amazed at how the area rug keeps the bed from floating in the middle of the room creating a custom look. I couldn’t be happier with how our guest bedroom turned out!
