A Patriotic Summer Theme
May 17, 2019
The older I get the faster time goes by. I cannot believe we have lived in our new house for over a year and we are celebrating our second Memorial Day on the patio space that just about “did me in” last Spring.
I am not sure if you remember but I spent 3 weeks powerwashing, restoring flower beds, cleaning the black wrought iron pool fence in an effort to create a cozy patio space for our family to enjoy.
This year I am so happy that I got a jump on Spring cleanup as Memorial Day weekend will be all about relaxing and entertaining with family and friends.
Decorating with red, white and blue for the upcoming Summer holidays can be so much fun!
I prefer a more sophisticated red, white and blue theme and today I have some easy ideas that you can implement in minutes on your own patio or deck.
Red White and Blue Holiday Entertaining Ideas
A seating area is something most of us have outdoors. Throw pillows and planters featuring your color scheme are key especially when decorating for Memorial Day or the Fourth of July.
I decided to incorporate everyday throw pillows featuring red paisley, red striped and blue checkers. The festive flag pillow says, “hey it’s a Patriotic” theme but the other pillows featuring red, white and blue keep the theme sophisticated.
Planters that are red or blue filled with red geraniums and trailing white annuals are perfect for setting the Patriotic stage on your patio or deck.
Holiday Beverage Station
One of my favorite things to do when having guests over is to create a beverage station. Call me crazy but I love to create a cozy welcoming area to display drinks and appetizers.
For this theme, I hung Patriotic banners (with double sided tape) as a backdrop on our pool house wall and used a folding table covered with a red striped throw blanket.
You can’t go wrong with a tiered stand for treats and snacks. I always add flowers to my beverage station and the inexpensive geraniums worked out perfectly.
Patriotic Tablescape ideas
Lastly, your table is a great place to make a statement.
I simply filled a blue large ice bucket (you can always use as a cooler for bottled drinks too) with geraniums and trailing white annuals.
In less than 5 minutes, I had a gorgeous centerpiece for my table. The addition of small flags stuck inside the plants shows off the classic Patriotic theme.
Melamine plates are my best friend during the summer months.
To keep the look classic, I started with white dinner and salad plates and finished the table setting design with blue patterned bowls and colorful placemats.
This tablescape may look complicated but it’s really all about creating multiple layers with your place settings. You can create multiple layers with a placemats, dishware, silverware, napkins and glasses.
Lets not forget something fun as well!
The corn hole toss game from HomeGoods couldn’t have been more perfect for our lawn.
The flag theme tied in nicely with our patio and the addition of a couple potted geraniums created a cute game space. All of the throw pillows, planters, area rug, tablescape items, beverage station items and corn toss game are from HomeGoods. Nothing better than a one stop shopping trip to HomeGoods for all your outdoor decorating needs.
