Sophisticated Romantic Bedroom Makeover
February 26, 2019
Winter is such a great time to update your bedroom and add a little romance. I recently took on my own bedroom and tasked myself with creating a fresh sophisticated bedroom. This entire project started with a cute little bench that wanted to come home with me from HomeGoods.
My bedroom was a mix of old bedding and decorative accents from our old house.
Here is my bedroom before. The light fixture and wall color were left over from the previous owner, the blue lampshades coordinated with an older comforter that I lost during the move and the pink quilt was from a previous bedroom design. It was a hot mess.
We moved into our current home almost a year ago this week and my bedroom never was a priority until I found a certain bench at HomeGoods.
My new bedroom has varying levels of texture featured in the throw pillows, the throw blanket the seafoam comforter and the scrolling artwork (headboard). My bedroom happens to be the darkest bedroom with only one window so the lighter walls and lighter bedding really helped brighten up the space.
The new bench from HomeGoods is what sparked my bedroom makeover idea. I never had a bench before at the end of my bed and when I saw this one, I absolutely loved it. My wheels were spinning. I purchased the bench, loaded it into my truck and drove home.
Once the bench was in my bedroom, I quickly realized, the wall color needed to be changed. I also decided to remove the existing light fixture from the previous owners.
I enlisted some help from a friend and that week and we spent the morning painting my bedroom a white color with a hint of blue/gray undertone.
In an effort to create a more cohesive look, I added an area rug I had from my previous house under the bed. I always layer an area rug under a bed.
I remember when I went shopping for new bedding at HomeGoods. I had no idea what my bedroom color scheme was going to be but as soon as I saw the textured seafoam colored comforter set, I snagged it quickly. I was so excited and I knew it would look great with the bench. A light seafoam color plus white walls in my mind, equals clean fresh and romantic!
I originally planned on keeping my existing gray tufted headboard but I accidently came across two amazing wall art pieces during another HomeGoods shopping trip that stopped me in my tracks. My mom happened to be shopping with me (featured in the below image) that day and when I told her about my headboard idea, her response was, “no way, that is going to look wonderful!”
For under $169, I created a unique headboard by hanging them side by side. The fact that they were the exact width of my king size mattress was a bonus.
The scrolling wood design created the extra texture on the wall which helped achieve the sophisticated romantic look.
I swapped out the lamp shades for a linen color that coordinated with the new bench from HomeGoods.
I purchased new throw pillows from HomeGoods and the shams that came with the seafoam and white comforter set were the perfect mix of soft neutral colors.
It really is amazing what a coat of paint, new bedding and few new decorative accents can do for a space. I personally love the wall art as a headboard. One of these artwork pieces would also be the perfect size for a twin headboard as well. My #gofinding mission at HomeGoods was a complete success and I absolutely love my bedroom.
