7 Ideas for setting a festive holiday table
December 13, 2018
The holidays bring twinkling trees, garlands and wreaths and holiday get togethers. And with that comes things like cheese boards, pies and pretty table settings.
Inspired tables area always fun to do whether you have a house full of people or just a few close friends or family- and today I am sharing a few recent HomeGoods finds and tips on setting a table full of holiday ambiance.
#1. Candles on repeat
A favorite table styling that I did recently involved something on repeat- loads of candles. I picked up several boxes of tapers, little glass jar candles and even added some votives and tea lights- and simple gathered along a fresh garland on the table.
The warm glow and flicker of those candles added a whole lot of ambiance and an invitation to linger at the table for conversation just a bit longer.
#2. The Midas Touch
Another always on repeat element for a pretty table- especially during the holidays- gilded table elements like glasses, flatware and chargers.
You can bring in as little or as many gold elements as you would like- and that glimmer creates layers of elegance. On this table- I used amber wine stems and gold etched glasses- along with chargers and gold flatware- and small dessert dishes that I placed tea light candles in for an extra bit of ambiance.
#3. Go Bold & Beautiful
I normally choose gold or white or even blush candles for tables- but during the holidays-rich colors just seem to speak a little bit louder sometimes. These rich cranberry colored tapers were perfect for mingling with an olive garland centerpiece for a festive and cheery Christmas table.
#4. Pastel Holiday Charm
There are so many wonderful shades of Christmas ornaments at HomeGoods- and quite a few that are very vintage in look. I gathered up a few boxes of vintage inspired and some vintage ornaments to create a whimsical pastel bauble centerpiece. Simply layer a bit of eucalyptus and then add your ornaments and candles. Another idea is to also gift an ornament to each of your guests at the end of the evening.
#5. Blooming Christmas
Fresh flowers are always at the top of the list for what I think of when setting a table- and during the holidays – you can use soft pastels or bold beautiful colors to create a festive look on your table. For this arrangement – blush taper candles and pink linens and glassware found at HomeGoods mix perfectly with those rich burgundy peonies. For a look you can enjoy all year- pick up a couple of faux arrangements and use those in addition to or instead of fresh.
#6. Garland Galore
Fresh or faux – a garland centerpiece is perfect during the holidays. And it is so easy to do. Simply lay the garland down the center of the table and add your candles. Embellish with fresh clippings if using faux to add scent as well and for a traditional French country style- add fresh persimmons or tangerines or pomegranate.
#7. A softer side
For linens- you don’t have to have with traditional red, greens or whites. Any color scheme works for Christmas – and a favorite look of mine is to use blush linen on the table.
Blush mingles with golds and fresh holiday greens just perfectly- and adds a soft color on the table.
Basically, just remember that there are no rules- simply use what you like and what you enjoy. And by bringing in a couple of little things like a bevy of candles or a few gold accents and fresh greens- you can take an everyday beautiful table setting to one that feels like it has been sprinkled with a bit of Christmas magic.
