Furniture and Home Accents

We have completed our rustic neutral living room makeover and it was so much fun to partner with HomeGoods and Homesense on this project. If you’re not familiar with Homesense it’s the sister store to HomeGoods that was introduced to the northeast last year. More stores are opening so you may have one near you soon! Homesense has a significant selection of lighting, rugs and large furniture pieces that will knock your socks off! Just like HomeGoods, you can always count on finding unique, one of a kind pieces.

If you have been following me for a while, you know that we are now three generations living under one roof and we recently moved into a new home this past February. Our living room has high ceilings and a large stone fireplace. We needed to turn this cavernous space into something warm, friendly and inviting.

First I placed a rug I found at Homesense. The neutral tones and soft patterns brought a warmth that really anchored the space.

The ivory upholstered chairs, flanking the fireplace, were scored at HomeGoods and complement the neutral rug and stone beautifully.

Our home has a Mediterranean feel with the characteristics of an Italian Villa. My goal was to create a more modern Italian look with rustic flare. This rich walnut coffee table, discovered at Homesense, has an old-world feel with charming nail head detail. It coordinates perfectly wit the recently installed wood mantel.

I have always wanted an iron mirror like this one currently on our mantel and I almost fell over when I saw it at HomeGoods. Not only was exactly what I wanted but the price was amazing. I wanted the mantel to be simple and not overly cluttered with decorative accents so I decided that a green plant and a rustic Italian vase from HomeGoods would do the trick.

Do you ever struggle with what to put inside the fireplace hearth? Well I do. I had no idea until this oversized candle holder caught my eye in HomeGoods. I stopped dead in my tracks and immediately put it in my cart before someone else grabbed it. It is the perfect fit. Literally.

I layered in a variety of pillows, throws and goregous Italian vases to add texture and pattern to the room.

All in all, I couldn’t be happier with this room and while we originally planned to add a TV above the mantel, I’m loving the mirror more. I may need to negotiate with my husband at the start of football season! If you would like to see more of our new home, you can visit us at our blog Four Generations Under One Roof.
