Whether you’ve just moved into an apartment, house or dorm sometimes the area of space that’s sacrificed the most is the bathroom. But just because space may be limited, doesn’t mean your décor ideas have to be limited as well. You can still have a beautiful spa like bathroom that feels luxurious and large. Today, I will give you 5 tips on how to make your small bathroom feel larger than it really is.

Tip No. 1: Go Vertical! Find items that are taller, such as shelves, towel ladders, or hang hooks, to draw the eye upward. I purchased the shelf from HomeGoods, and ended up spray painting the frame black. This shelf had the perfect dimensions to fit in my tiny bathroom, but I needed it to be in black rather than silver. With just a few extra bucks and time, it became the perfect storage and display piece for my bathroom.

Tip No. 2: Go Higher With Your Shower Curtain Rod. Install your shower curtain to about ceiling height, to make the bathroom feel more luxurious and grand! I DIYed my curtain rod (using pipes) to drop from the ceiling, since my entire bathroom is tiled, and I didn’t want to risk cracking the tile. If you go higher with your shower curtain rod, you may have to get longer curtains depending on your ceiling height. So in that case, venturing out to the drapery aisle of HomeGoods, and opting for 84’’ curtains may be ideal. (Note: Most shower curtains come in a standard length of 72’’). I found this beautiful natural tan drapery at HomeGoods, and used drapery hooks (also from HomeGoods) to hang it.

Tip No. 3: Use Your Storage Items, As Decorative Items. Since space is limited, there isn’t much room for decorative décor, so choose items that work for storage, but also is visually appealing to add style and function to your small bathroom. I used clear glass jars, baskets, and a wooden stool (all from HomeGoods) that acts as another surface to rest things on, but also sturdy enough to sit on when I’m giving my two dogs a bath.

Tip No. 4: Organization is Key! Your small bathroom can look cluttered very easily, very fast. So make sure every item has a home. Utilize baskets, jars, shelves, and containers to keep your bathroom looking neat and tidy.

Tip No. 5: Go Neutral, With Splashes of Color. Neutral colors such as whites, grays, and tans help brighten up your small space to make it look bigger and spa-like. I usually like to go neutral with items such as towels, shower curtains and bath rugs. Add splashes of color using candles, artwork, and flowers to bring more personality to your bathroom.

Bonus Tip: Add some greenery to your space. Whether you add real plants or faux plants, greenery gives your bathroom that luxurious element and brings everything together to make your dream bathroom come alive!
