Entertaining and Recipes Outdoor Living Seasonal Decor

It feels like winter just ended so it’s hard to believe that summer is almost here. Regardless, I’m thrilled to welcome this new season into my life and home. That’s why today I’m sharing creative decorating ideas to help you celebrate the summer solstice in style!

In case you didn’t know, the summer solstice marks the official beginning of the summer season. This also happens to be the longest day of the year for those of us who live north of the equator. That’s probably why it’s among my favorite days. Bring on the sunshine!

I decided to set up a table outdoors to celebrate this special day. If you follow my blog, you’ll know that I recently purchased a new home in Pittsburgh, PA. (I’m giving a full tour of my new house here.) I’ll be moving my belongings in over the next few weeks, but I couldn’t resist decorating my new side porch to take advantage of the summer-like weather.

My first step was going to my local HomeGoods on a #GoFinding mission to pick up a few beautiful and functional accessories to style my new space.

This table came together when I found these large galvanized buckets with wood handles. I thought they would be perfect for storing extra drinks or holding potted plants. So that’s exactly what I used them for!

Next, I stumbled upon these grilling pans. Their shape, size, and texture made me think they would make great plate chargers/placements. I couldn’t be more pleased with how they look and function. One thing I do when shopping at HomeGoods (or anywhere for that matter) is to think about how I might use the things I purchase in unconventional ways. That’s where the magic happens and how things become unique and personal.

To complete the look, I layered in napkins, plates, flatware, and glasses!

I’m typically not a fan of plastic/melamine dining pieces, but if you can believe it, both the plates and glasses are plastic! I fell in love with the shape of the plates so I couldn’t resist adding them to my cart.

Next, I plucked a couple ferns from my landscaping and added them to a jar for a quick touch of nature. This is another reason I love summer. You can turn to your own backyard for decorating inspiration.

Finally, I used this small double bucket to serve a few pre-dinner snacks. Lined with a coordinating paper napkin, this display of flavored popcorn and sesame pretzels (which I also found at HomeGoods) offers an appealing way to take the edge off your hunger.
