Spring Outdoor Dining

The weather has been warming up in California, which means we want to be outdoors as much as possible! We decided to plan a fun little outdoor dinner party with friends, to kick off the season.  I headed over to HomeGoods to see what they had in store.

I started in the pillow section to look for a few new pillows for my outdoor seating area. Right now is the perfect time to find outdoor pillows, cushions and patio accessories, so I found a great selection to choose from.  When I’m creating a new look, I usually start by brainstorming with a color scheme and theme that I’d like to achieve. I’ll usually browse through Pinterest and Instagram to compile some visual concepts to keep in mind while I’m shopping.

I love a classic, traditional look, with a feminine touch.  I have some black and white and gray furniture pieces in my yard already, so I was hoping to find some new black and white pillows, and maybe even something pink!  One thing I always remember when shopping is: I may find the exact look I’m going for, or I may have to be a little flexible and be satisfied with ‘similar.’ Happily, I found something that would help me bring my vision to life.

Next up, I headed over to the outdoor dining section at HomeGoods.  The selection was really vast, so I had to keep my overall theme in mind.  Something traditional, black and white, pink and maybe even a little green.  I also kept in mind the cloth napkins that I already had at home, which were a watercolor floral in pink, yellow and green.  This would also help me narrow down my selection.  I knew I would be looking for a few new melamine wine glasses, plates and bowls and a couple of fun serving pieces.

These pale pink stemless melamine wine glasses were perfect, and they complemented my napkins so well.  I went with a classic white melamine plate and clear bowls.  These are staple items that can be used over and over, alongside any color combination.  For an added little punch of color, I picked up this adorable palm leaf serving tray, and two of these green succulent bowls.

Keeping things safe from breaking, I decided to use a couple of these melamine cups as vases for roses that I snipped from the yard.  I loved the rectangular shape of them, which made them look like an actual vase!

I had so much fun pulling this whole look together.  The pillows dressed up my outdoor sofa, with a vibrant punch of color against the black and white, and the new table accessories worked well with the whole look too.

Also, I gave my outdoor bar cart a little revamp.  It was something that I found at HomeGoods last summer, but I wanted to give it a new look.  It was a natural reddish brown wood color before.  I was never completely in love with it’s color, but I loved the style and quality of the piece.  So, I decided to paint it black, which again, is always a timeless and classic look.  Take a look at how it turned out.

We strung a few cafe lights across the yard to create the perfect ambiance at night, and we brought out our little gas fire pit to keep our guests toasty! I also brought a couple of cozy throws outside and placed them in the seating areas and in baskets, ready for guests to use.  I added a couple candlesticks I had indoors to the tabletop also.

The finished look was just what I had in mind, our guests remarked about how they loved it, and everyone was cozy and comfortable.  I’m always so happy to “Go Finding” at HomeGoods and create my own personal look and story for my home.  You can do it too! I hope my tips and tricks will help you create your own personal outdoor oasis as well!

Let me know what you think of this look I’ve created!
