As an actress, I’m constantly curious, exploring the inspiration and the space around a character to inform how I creatively bring them to life. I step into my character’s shoes, explore her feelings, her actions, her home.

When I joined the cast of NBC’s This is Us as Beth, I picked up my life and relocated to LA for half the year – splitting my time between the West Coast and the East Coast. My NYC space is truly my home, but I needed an LA pad that could feed my creativity and keep me inspired during filming. I wanted to channel my creativity not only through my work, but also into a space that I could call my own. I needed a great space (which I finally found), and also great décor, so I turned to HomeGoods (of course!). Moving into a new home, I take in my surroundings, my new neighborhood, my past travels, my passions. I visit local stores, coffee shops and community centers to get a feel for my new neighborhood. With all of the inspiration from my surroundings, my next stop is shopping at HomeGoods, which always gets my mind working, my creative energy flowing!

I’d say that I am an efficient shopper – I know what I want, what I like, and I grab it, but when something catches my eye like the amazing woven bench in my entryway, I had an instant vision of it in my home and had to buy it! Any true HomeGoods fan knows you have to have a strategy, so here’s mine: I always enter with one piece that I’m hunting for, but I end up filling up my cart with way more than what I originally came in for. My strategy is to hit the big stuff first, like furniture and carpets (they have the best rugs!), then go exploring for other fun items to fill in the rest of my vision – it really is such a thrill when you stumble upon something you’d never expect to find.

HomeGoods has always been one of my absolute favorite stores, and so I was thrilled when we decided to partner up together to create an LA-based oasis that’s both gorgeous and functional – a space that relaxes me and energizes me between shoot days. One of the things I love the most about HomeGoods is that the prices are so incredible that anyone can shop there – it was my go-to when I was a girl on a budget, and it continues to be now that I’m a working actress.

I worked with HomeGoods Style Expert Mike Harrison to create the look of my new apartment, and we had such a blast wandering the aisles of the store like we were on a treasure hunt – and I have to say, we got a lot of booty!

My overall “look” for the space was drawn from my Afro-Caribbean heritage, with lots of pops of color. I was really feeling orange as my central color for the décor, especially in my living room. At HomeGoods, I picked up the perfect pieces (curtains, rugs, white linens to name a few), merging them with my own unique style and routine (loving pops of color, candles and visitors), then completed my dream sanctuary.

I like to bring pops of colors in to my space. I recently purchased a beautiful painting from by the amazing artist, Kitwana Robinson, from Jamaica– it inspired me to highlight bright teal and vibrant orange in my home. At HomeGoods I grabbed some amazing throws and pillows in those colors – it made my living room feel just like home.

I absolutely love candles! There’s something so relaxing about coming home from a long day of filming and lighting my favorite candle – HomeGoods has SO many it’s seriously my favorite aisle in the store.

I love visitors! Since Los Angeles is my second home I frequently have friends and family visit me and with guests comes entertaining, not to mention a place for them to stay! HomeGoods has so many amazing items for entertaining like glassware for my wet bar or serving ware for the kitchen at such great prices.

One of my favorite things about this partnership is that we were able to create spaces that help me deal directly with my busy life and allow for me to be creative. For example, my styling station to the left of my dining table is completely functional – it doubles as home decor and a place to do my hair and make-up for the red carpet. I also found this great desk in the guest room that was super affordable and fits perfectly in the space – I now use it as a mini home office for any paperwork I need to take care of.

Plus, I completely revamped my guest bedroom and I swear my guests will never want to leave now! But… they’ll have to eventually… because my guest bedroom is one of my favorite places to lounge while also serving as my home office. See, the perfect blend of peace and creativity.

At the end of the day, my bedroom is the most inviting room in my home. It’s the beautiful, soft, cozy oasis I dreamed it would be. I picked out all new bedding at HomeGoods including an amazing white, quilted comforter, fluffy fur pillows and the most luxurious rug.

I love that I was able to bring my LA space to life! It not only nurtures my creative side, energizing me when I am running lines or preparing to get into character, but also allows me to feel completely relaxed and at ease. I had an absolute blast at HomeGoods and styling my home; I hope that you too will Go Finding at HomeGoods and have the same success I did!
