Small houses might sometimes feel a little daunting when it comes to laying out their functionality. For instance they might lack of closet space not to mention, an office. Back in the day, our 1938 home was built for those who were looking to travel to warmer states during the winter.  So you could imagine that we lack of many of today’s most used areas (insert here a laundry room) in our Miami house.

Look for the Perfect Corner:

But, being an interior decorator has its perks, even more when it comes to getting the most out of every little corner. Tired of making our dinner table in my office (aka the kitchen table), I finally found the perfect spot for it. Here in Florida, especially in the South, so many homes have Sunrooms and ours is used as a TV room/playroom, and now office. There is a corner in this room where a small desk would fit perfectly. I just had to find the ideal accessories that would help me in getting the most of this space.

Get Inspired Everyday:

When creating an office, there should always be a place in sight to put important reminders, calendars or simply inspirational/motivational images. I found the perfect board for this purpose at HomeGoods. And while they had an amazing variety of these, the burlap fabric and the nails used on the borders of this one made it the ideal board for my space and look I was going for.

This is perfect for adding a small succulent plant that doesn’t requires a lot of water. This box can also store a small staple, tiny notepads, photos, mini calendars, it uses are endless.

Illumination is Always Important:

While I sit in an area that enjoys natural light during the day, a task light was important for those late nights. This amazing find at HomeGoods had a heavy marble base which gave it stability. I love the brass material and the fact that I can raised it or lower it depending on my needs. I also love how it matches the nails in the bulletin board.

Sitting Place:

While HomeGoods has many options for office chairs, I needed one that fit this space and my small desk. While searching for the perfect seat, I ended up looking beyond the office area and went into the furniture. Over there I found a this farmhouse inspired “X-Back” dining chair that goes perfectly into this space. And yes, It is okay to mix different type of wood.
