A simple table inside a winter greenhouse… with a secret. Yes, indeed. And it might not be the secret you think it is.

I am quite obsessed with pale blues and pretty pinks- especially when they are mingling together in a room or on a table top. The other day I headed into HomeGoods to find some items for a brunch I was hosting and while shopping, I bumped into the most beautiful pale blue plates and wine stems.

I immediately thought of that simple Spring table I was dreaming up in the greenhouse. The one with an abundance of white with curtains and pretty all around- and the blooms just starting to pop up on the shelves.

So those glasses and plates went in the cart- along with a pretty little container for blooms and a water pitcher. And I didn’t tell anyone that they had a secret.

Can you guess what it was? They are melamine. Which is a type of plastic. Those plates? Yes, indeed- melamine. And those gorgeous wine stems with all those details? You bet. They are in fact melamine. As is the compote I used for flowers.

The best part about melamine is- you and your guests don’t have to worry about breaking any glass. Which means they are great options for outdoor areas like pools or places where you might go barefoot and need to be safe. And the melamine of today – is not like the plastics of yesterday. It is so much like glass and ceramic- I literally had to tap on these pieces to know that they were plastic.

Right now, melamine is a hot commodity. Gearing up for spring and summer entertaining these pieces are perfect for mixing with your everyday dishes and entertaining pieces- and I am loving them.

I had the hardest time choosing which colors and pieces to go with – there were so many. But these blues… well. I fell for them. But feel free to mix and match your colors – you don’t have to stick with one shade. Or, as you can see I mixed colors with clear acrylic pieces.
