I want to show you how I’ve put together an organized playroom for my kids in our basement.  We have an area for watching TV, an art and game table, and now a new place to keep their toys and supplies organized, right next to a cozy place to sit and relax.

I started by using a bookcase and a 5 x 7 area rug that I had upstairs in my living room. These two pieces helped create a more defined area.  From there, I added these black and white graphic pillows (that were previously upstairs on my sofa) to the rug to make for a comfortable seating area.

Next, I headed to HomeGoods to find some accessories.  I knew I wanted to find colorful pieces, with a bohemian vibe.  I started by looking for baskets or boxes that I could use in my bookcase for storing supplies.  I was super happy to find these light gray patterned boxes, and I had some fun organizing them with goodies.  Here’s a look at those, along with some office accessories I found at HomeGoods as well.

I spotted this great paper holder that fit perfectly into the bookcase shelf. Doesn’t it look cute with papers on display?

The kids love to create art, so I love that this will keep their construction paper organized. They’re loving how visible and accessible everything is too! This little wire organizer is also great for holding their crayons and markers.

I painted the wall behind the bookcase with chalkboard paint, for added fun! Now the kids can draw here too! As you can see, lots of drawing and erasing has already happened here!

I brought my kids with me on my trip to HomeGoods, and I let them choose a few pieces of their own.  They found a furry beanbag, and a little boho rope chair to add to the space for extra seating.

We also found these adorable cactus prints.  They were the right amount of color, and they fit with the boho style I was going for.  I also loved the natural wood frames to add some warmth next to all the black and white.  Let’s not forget this letter board too! This should keep them busy for a while!

On our way up to the register to check out, we discovered this cute little cactus potpourri holder.  Couldn’t pass this up!

I found this cool work table at HomeGoods a couple months ago, which is perfect for games and art.

Dominoes anyone?

Here’s a tip: Keep a roll of wrapping paper handy in your art space to use on your tabletop under painting projects to protect your table from spills.

I hope you’ve liked seeing how I’ve created this kids’ playroom using some older pieces of furniture and new updates from HomeGoods.  Get creative and put something together with your kids too.  I know you will all enjoy it as much as my family has!
