Hot cocoa, s’mores, cozy knit throws and a warm fire… Autumn is the perfect time to bundle up and head outdoors before it gets too cold. I love to sit by a warm fire in the fresh air with all that autumn charm and colorful leaves dotting the ground.

And a simple and easy way to create a perfect spot for enjoying a fall evening with friends and family is to create a fire pit area.

You don’t need a large yard or need to live in the country. You can create a cozy spot in the tiniest of spaces with just a few elements.

Place Your Fire Pit

Set your fire pit in an area where you can gather a few chairs or benches around to be able to enjoy with friends. I love to use these wicker chairs from HomeGoods and pull a couple old wood stumps up as an extra spot.

Add a Table for Treats

Think simple and convenient when designing your space.  A small table is perfect when tucked in between chairs and it is also the perfect spot for setting those s’mores supplies or cups of hot cocoa or cider.

Hang Some Twinkle Lights

One of my favorite touches is strings of twinkle lights in the tree branches add an abundance of ambiance and charm. If you don’t have a tree near your fire pit- you can simply use a couple of tall stakes or pieces of wood to create an area to string the lights across.

Light It Up With Candles

Of course, lots of candles are a great idea but you always have to keep safety in mind. I use LED candles outdoors, especially in areas where there are dried leaves and where the candles may accidentally get knocked over by over zealous s’more makers.  Look for various sizes of outdoor safe LED candles and enjoy the ambiance without the worry.

Toss in Cozy Throws

Now that your stage is set for fun evenings outdoors this autumn, don’t forget throws and warm blankets to cozy up in. I love these tartan plaid throws from HomeGoods and might have a couple of them in various colors. And anything chunky knit is always a good idea too.

Then sit back and enjoy autumn and all the charm it brings!
