Through the year, some areas in our home tend to change based on the season. While some people might bring in iconic pieces to their décor, I always opt for a more subtle approach.  Since we live in Miami, keeping the area’s look simple makes up for all those hot nights. Around here, we are all about airy fabrics in white and sand tones with the occasional white ceramic accessories.

During Spring, I like to bring in color to create a happier atmosphere. Yellow, flowers and also light fabrics are part of my décor.

For the transitional seasons of Fall through Winter, I prefer to add more layers in my décor and to use a palette that will allow me to include deeper tones throughout. Still I try to keep things simple in order to maintain a visually appealing space rather than crowded.

I’ve found these tips to be helpful in achieving a seasonal simple look that can be reuse through the year:

Use a neutral base palette. Start with bedsheets in soft neutral colors such as whites, grays or sands; and from there build. Normally most seasons call for an “IT” color; summers can be yellow or turquoise, while winter can be the typical red or an astonishing emerald. Let this color be the main character of the room in pieces such as decorative pillows, throws, etc.

Rearrange the furniture: You can give a fresh look to your bedroom (or any room in the house) by just rearranging the furniture. I like to change the position of our bed keeping in mind that the sun casts a different light each season.

Change the curtains: Besides paint, curtains can quickly provide a new look into the décor. I opt for heavier fabrics during the colder season and lighter one on summer.

Side tables: They bring an opportunity to add accessories that speak of the season. For me, pinecones will add just the right dose of fall/winter.

The key thing here is the have a neutral base you love that allows for different seasonal decor and colors to be added in. As you can see, these simple tips can be useful as a guide to get you started to decorate for the coming season. Have you started decorating for winter yet?
