Our family room is the hub of our home (along with our kitchen) and today I wanted to share 3 easy steps for an affordable living room makeover. Makeovers do not need to always be huge before and after budget killers. It’s easy to simply swap out pillows, lamps, rugs and smaller furniture pieces.

Our family room this past summer sported a fabulous tufted ottoman style coffee table that I had picked up at HomeGoods on clearance and last week, I found this amazing warm toned leather ottoman that I thought would be perfect for Fall and Winter. Isn’t it a beauty?

I left the key components in the space and simply swapped out the coffee table, throw pillows and summer decorative accents. Photo by Four Generations One Roof

Many readers email me asking how I deal a coffee table that isn’t wood. The problem with a fabric or leather ottoman is where do you put your drinks? Wooden or ceramic trays filled with decorative accents can provide a hard surface for drinks or in this case, I added a cutting board inside the seagrass tray basket for drinks.

I actually left many of the decorative accents that I had used during the Summer in this space as they coordinated nicely with the Fall orange and plaid theme as seen in the throw pillows. All of the pillows and throws are from Homegoods along with the beautiful leather coffee table. I will admit, the plaid throw is probably one of the nicest throws I have seen in a while. The vivid colors and texture (and it’s super warm!) paired nicely with the leather.

I sprinkled Fall Seasonal elements throughout the room along with a fresh bouquet of flowers from my local supermarket and the room quickly went from Coastal Summer to Warm Cozy Fall. Isn’t it amazing what a few little changes can do for a space? In case you are wondering, the amazing entertainment center with sliding barn doors is also from Homegoods ;).
