Decorating for the holiday season is easily one of my favorite things. Thankfully, as a Lifestyle Blogger, I have the luxury of creating new seasonal spaces every year. Sometimes even twice a year.

As I was deciding how to decorate my dining room for the holidays this year, I popped into my local HomeGoods to look for inspiration.

Because I know that HomeGoods has an excellent selection of dinnerware, that’s where I started. Within minutes, I came across this set of black and white checked dinner plates with a gold rim. I was in love. My style is a bit eclectic, so these are the perfect combination of country, glam and contemporary.

I continued my search, hoping to find a coordinating salad plate. While I could have opted for a matching set, I like to mix things up when it comes to my holiday decorating to give it a more collected look. I was thrilled to score these salad plates with a rose gold pine pattern. Even though the gold in the pine pattern doesn’t perfectly match the gold rim on the dinner plate, I like how they work together.

With plates in hand, my holiday dining room decor was set: black, mixed metallics and a touch of green.

As I was hunting for a few more table touches, I found this faux fur table runner to add soft texture.

Large mercury glass trees tucked into a tray with ornaments added height and sparkle to the table.

To finish off the festive feel of the plates, I simply rolled a napkin in a gold napkin ring and tucked in a piece of pine from the yard.

I also decided to experiment with black flatware. I love the look, but gold or silver would have worked just as nicely.

With that, my holiday table was set and ready for the season.

To continue this theme throughout my space, I added a tree in the corner, decorated with a faux fur ribbon and ornaments in black and varied metallics. I especially like these mini trees I found at HomeGoods.

While certainly not traditional, this color scheme adds elegance and festiveness to the room. Plus, it will transition well into any New Year celebrations I might host. You’ve got to love decor that does double duty!
