This week’s guest blogger is Jennifer of Dear Lillie.

Decorating with gray can be a little tricky. Gray is my favorite neutral to use when decorating my home, but because it can sometimes appear cold, it’s always important to find ways to add warmth and personality to a room with gray hues.

One of my favorite ways to do this is to add lots of textures, as well as mixing in patterns and some sparkle. For this guest bedroom, we started by painting the walls a dark gray and then added a white upholstered headboard for some contrast and bedding that has a fun updated toile pattern.

We continued to add more pattern with the bench and the rug. By using a wool rug we were able to add some warmth and interest. We finished the main parts of the room off with mirrored furniture and pieces with nail-head trim to add more texture, and then started in on the accessories.

We were able to find so many accessories at HomeGoods that helped add warmth, sparkle and some personality to this otherwise monochromatic room. The large horse image over the bed was chosen by my four year-old daughter who absolutely fell in love with it one day while we were shopping at HomeGoods.

We also found this cozy throw and pillow that we added to the chair. Both items have a subtle pattern and help the room feel elegant, yet still cozy at the same time.

We found this beautiful standing mirror, which adds some sparkle, and the metal sphere at HomeGoods as well. I think my favorite find, though, was this stunning over-sized mercury glass vase. I love the pattern on it! We filled it with white and purple blossoms from our butterfly bush, but it also would work well as a hurricane vase for an over-sized candle.

One thing that can help add a special touch to a guest bedroom is to wallpaper the inside of the closet. It’s such a fun little surprise for a guest to open the door and find something so unexpected. To keep this closet organized we found all sorts of beautiful baskets and boxes at HomeGoods that help keep the space looking visually appealing, but still functional as well. We use this closet to store our winter jackets, as well as our suitcases and other miscellaneous items.

By incorporating lots of patterns, textures and a little bit of shine, we were able to give a lot of personality to this gray bedroom.
