What are must-haves for your front porch? What furniture and accessories do you need to welcome your guests with a “we’re glad you’re here” feeling?

I searched the Internet and my neighborhood for ideas, and learned that the perfect porch is 1) colorful 2) comfortable and 3) personal.

Color: I like to keep my furniture and paint colors neutral, so I can easily change my accent colors to go with the season or my mood. A touch of pink, red, yellow or orange can have a huge impact with a little effort, much like this porch from Hope Designs.

What are your favorite colors? What are your favorite flowers?

Don’t forget beautiful containers for those flowers, such as the ones on this porch from Jumping Rocks Photography.

Comfort: Fabric can provide both color and comfort to an outdoor space. This space from Woolrich Home looks like the perfect spot to curl up and read a good book, or sip a glass of tea or wine with good friends. I also like the idea of adding a lamp to give soft, indirect light for evening visiting.

Personal: Pillows, candles, glassware, planters, flowers, ceramics and throws are  perfect ways to add color, comfort and personality to any space.

We did a front porch makeover this year. Sadie would like to invite you to take a closer look at our work in progress…

We have a couple of outdoor wicker chairs with a matching table. It’s a little whimsy with the bunny and bird. The flowers and pillows are a nice start.

I’m still looking for some bright flowers and a throw to add some color.

What’s on your front porch that says, “Please come over and sit a spell?”
