Many times when I am decorating a living room, the walls end up a light neutral color. I had the opportunity to work with HomeGoods a few weeks ago as a stylist on one of their photo shoots and created a living room filled with deep colors and spectacular contrast. The goal was to incorporate design elements that were rich in color, texture and pattern.
Today, I want share how to create a gorgeous navy living room filled with rich, luxe colors.
The color chart above will help you choose items that are similar in color. I opted for a deep navy wall with pillows as the hero pieces that brought in fabulous texture and visual interest.
The Mid-Century couch, coffee table and wall art all helped captivate the worldly, rich elements, while the Kilim pillows tied it nicely together.
The rustic wooden elements, alongside the basket weave wall art, softened the space and warmed it up. Sometimes, deep navy, especially on a wall, can create a cooler toned room. So, we needed to brighten up the navy walls with warm toned furniture, pillows and decorative accents.
Do you like the idea of hanging the large artwork to the side of the couch and filling in with smaller decorative items? While many people choose to center artwork above the couch, I wanted to create a space that was unique, fun and stylish.
Plants are the perfect addition to any space and look fabulous inside a basket beside a couch. They fill in gaps and work wonders for a room. I wish someone had filmed how many objects I hung on the wall or how many lamps I placed on the leather ottoman and side table before I settled on the ones in this image. Styling a space is all about trial and error; you never know how something will look until you try it.
Leaning artwork is my new favorite tip. I hung the larger piece on the wall above the dresser and leaned the smaller piece to create a layered look. By mixing in personal framed photographs and few white accents, the dresser was simple yet elegant.
In case you are wondering, 99% of everything in this room is from HomeGoods, furniture included! How many of you are fans of deep navy walls? Are you loving the trend of warm, rich toned accessories? Tell us in the comment section below.
