Can you believe it’s almost back to school time? I know some parts of the country already went back to school but here in Mass, we go back either the week before or after Labor Day. I recently cleaned out my sons locker in our mudroom and added a few new things to keep him (and me!) organized this back to school season. If you don’t have kids, no worry, these ideas are perfect for adults too!

We don’t have a designated mudroom, we have a portion of our kitchen dedicated to wall closets which I call, “our mudroom.” The built in closets (lockers) are perfect for everyday jackets, backpacks and purses.

This school season, I decided to add some storage features inside his locker to help keep his stuff organized. Not only is “his” locker for school stuff but it’s also where his laptop, headphones and electronics go. He would prefer to leave all his stuff on the kitchen island so by designating his “stuff” a spot in his locker, keeps the island clean! All of these items I bought for his locker are from HomeGoods.

I started by hanging a cute gray metal filing bin on the door using 3M adhesive velcro tabs. The hanging filing unit came with screws but I didn’t want to put holes in the door so the 3M velcro sticks solved the problem. I don’t know about you, but if you have kids in school, you they bring home a ton of paper. This filing cabinet is reserved for important information that “mom” seems to always misplace. Haha!

I found this adorable “Love you to the Moon and Back” sign and thought it would be cute on the door. HomeGoods has so much cute and fun wall art!

The pretty storage bins lined with fabric are perfect for keeping school pens, glue sticks and other items all in one place. When I was a kid, the schools supplied all the pencils ect., but not anymore. You have to buy everything on a list now which usually tally’s up to over $100. Yep, a million glue sticks, markers, binders, you name it. I don’t send everything on the first day of school, I keep the excess in a storage container so when my son runs out of something, he can just grab it and bring it to school. These storage baskets are perfect for excess school supplies.

I decided to spruce up the outside with a new blue patterned floor runner and adorable pillows from HomeGoods. I personally love the “smile” pillow. Perfect for Back To School! You know all the mom’s are secretly smiling – haha!

As much as I love having my son home during the summer, it’s always great to get back into a routine come late summer. Back to School is kind of a bag of emotions for me. I love staying up late and sleeping in a bit, having the flexibility to come and go without the homework and sports hanging over our head but there is something to say for a routine! I am happy to check off the mudroom organization aspect of back to school, now for the closets and making way for new school clothes!
