Let’s face it, there’s no escaping laundry! Some of us love doing the laundry, some of us (me, particularly) are not quite so fond of it! In our family of five, you can bet there are always baskets full of clothes to be washed, or clothes to be folded! Fortunately, I decided to give our laundry/mudroom a makeover to inspire and motivate everyone to stay on top of this inevitable task.

This room is where we typically enter and exit our home each day to the back garage, so it also serves as a mudroom.  It’s where the shoes come off, the backpacks and bags are hung up, where laundry ends up, and a place to grab a cold drink too.  It definitely gets a lot of use, so it was time to give this space a total update.  The cabinets were painted white, and the walls were painted a soft gray.

I wanted to find a new piece of art for above the counter, and I was happy to find this darling sign that says “Together, we have everything.” We’re a busy family, but I thought this was the perfect reminder for each of us to see as we come and go in our home.

A pretty, soft mat by the door is also a nice greeting – I found this one at HomeGoods and think it brings a warm, welcoming touch to the space.  I also covered the unsightly electrical panel on the back wall with a mirror that disguises it well.

Next, it was time to organize the cabinets and drawers. I started by lining the shelves with decorative adhesive paper to keep things looking fresh. I then chose these baskets, founds at HomeGoods, and totes in gray tones to store all family essentials.

How adorable is this felt and leather-like woven basket? I used it to store my iron and steamer. Now, I’m actually excited to reach in here and grab what I need, because it looks so cute! It’s like a little treat when I open the doors.

I even updated the cat’s supplies, using an air tight jar for food, and a fun wire basket for brushes and things.

Clear plastic drawer organizers, which are perfect for keeping smaller items in order.

I wanted a stylish way to store my laundry detergent and bleach on the countertop, so I used these large recycled glass containers.  I found these in the glasswares department of HomeGoods.  Just be sure to clearly label your jars, and keep them up and away from small children.  This way, I can easy dispense my cleaners into a small container then pour into the washer.  No more lugging heavy jugs back and forth, and they look so pretty too!

I used a ceramic tray to hold soap, a candle and a faux plant.  This keeps it looking tidy, and dresses up the sink area.

Large hooks on the wall for hanging backpacks, hats, and shopping bags, keep things neatly off the floor.

Key hooks by the door make it easy to grab and go. I found these two arrow hooks in gold, and spray painted them silver to match my theme.

And finally, a chalkboard adhesive paper on the side of the washer/dryer for adding fun messages! I wrote in “wash, dry, fold.”  I should have also written “repeat!”
