Where you live is your home. While it doesn’t matter if you rent or own, there are indeed a few limitations when renting. No worries, here are 5 decor solutions to help you add a little personal touch in any situation!

Curtains

Dress the windows like you’re going out on the town! You need privacy anyway, but it’s a great way to add interest to often uber neutral walls. Layering lovely panels with sheers on a double rod gives you many options and warms up the room. Just keep some spackle on hand!

Rugs

Create a purposeful zone with a pretty area rug. Even if you have wall-to-wall carpeting of mysterious dissent, it defines a space and expresses your style. Bonus: if the carpet is not so fresh, it makes you feel a little better about sitting on the floor to play with your kids and pets.

Wall art

Go big! Make a statement with art that speaks to you. The advantage of fewer larger pieces is that you’ll have less to spackle when you move out. Plus, like with the curtains, it’s an opportunity to spruce up a neutral setting.

Furniture arrangement

Even if you room is small, there are ways to arrange your room so it doesn’t look like the waiting room at a doctor’s office. Float furniture away from walls, try different angles, edit down if you need to. Just remember that it needs to be functional for how you live. Don’t forget to make room for your pets in your arrangement! They are family, too!

Personal flair

Display what you love! If you don’t have traditional bookshelves or a mantel, improvise with a standalone bookshelf and/or console table and display what makes you happy! In my case, we love aquatic pets! Fish and frogs and snails, oh my!
