Spread a little holiday happiness

I read a quote somewhere that truly strong women pull others up even when they themselves are struggling. No matter what our struggles might be, there are ways we can spread a little happiness to others, especially around the holidays. A gift basket of thoughtful items can bring a smile, and best of all, it’s contagious!

Our town has a program where the members of the community can donate a gift basket to a family that needs something a little extra “merry and bright” around the holidays. A friend and I put together a little something for a young couple with a four year-old daughter and a cat.

We included simple things, such as hot cocoa and festive mugs.

Plus Christmas cookies for Santa and scones with jam for breakfast (and of course, a little candy).

We also included a cute pink stuffed horse purse for the little girl (who likes pink and playing dress up) and a toy for the kitty. This wooden box was the perfect thing to hold these treasures.

We hope this gift basket spreads some happiness this year.

Of course, once we started looking in the pet aisle, we decided we couldn’t leave out the dogs at the local shelter! Toys won’t replace being taken in by a family, but they will make a dog’s day just a little brighter.

The super-functional bucket and dog shampoo will come in handy for the shelter volunteers.

My pup was highly interested, until she noticed the bottle of shampoo.

It gets even better when you realize that helping others is one of the best ways to raise your own spirits! Look around your own community to find programs to help everyone feel happy for the holidays. If no program exists, maybe it’s a sign that you should organize one!
